Adjective Clause


An adjective clause—also called an adjectival or relative clause—will meet three requirements:
  • First, it will contain a subject and verb.
  • Next, it will begin with a relative pronoun [whowhomwhosethat, or which] or a relative adverb [whenwhere, or why].
  • Finally, it will function as an adjective, answering the questions What kind? How many? orWhich one?
The adjective clause will follow one of these two patterns:
relative pronoun or adverb + subject + verb
relative pronoun as subject + verb
Adjective clause start with relative pronoun or relative adverb.


example: 


1. Adjective clause with relative pronoun
example:
The man who is sitting over there is my father.
The book which you bought yesterday is very interesting.
This is the place that I visited some years ago.
Mr. Bambang whose son is my friend is presenting a paper in a seminar.
 2. Adjective clause with relative adverb
example:
This is the reason why she did it.
The time when the plane takes off and lands will be changed soon.
Palembang is the place where I was born.


adjective Clause digunakan untuk memberi keterangan, identitas, dan informasi lain kepada katabenda (Antecedent). Dalam struktur Adjective Clause ditandai dengan Relative Pronoun, yaitu: who, whom, whose, which, when, where, why, dan that.

use for reason

example: 
My English teacher is the man who Is standing near the pillar.
 Adjective clause  are divided into two kinds:

1. Important (defining) adjective clause, is adjective clause who have the important informations.

2. Unimportant (undefining) adjective clause, is adjective clause who not important

 Example:
Important
Bob's brother that (who) lives in New York is an actor.

Meaning
Bob has more than one brother. 

Unimportant
Bob's brother, who lives in New York is an actor.

Meaning
Bob has only one brother.

Notes:
In important adjective clause, relative pronoun, for the example: who, whom, which can reffer to that, and no for unimportant adjective clause.
